big apple now in ipoh

yes people... you heard me right! Big Apple Donuts & Coffee is now available at kinta city, ipoh since last saturday, 2 may 2008 hmm... yummyy!!!... unfortunately i only knew about this yesterday hehe...


yes, i know its a little bit late for me to blog about this shop. who is not familiar about Big Apple donuts in malaysia? but since its just opened here in ipoh recently, i guess its still not too late for me to blog about it. i didn't take any pic of the outlet cuz i looked around and found that ipoh people are not into pic thingy yet. i also think that they are still new with this kind of foodie though. so i thought maybe i'll save that for my next visit there hehe... well for me, i am so glad that Big Apple is the one to make its first appearance in terms of donuts business in ipoh. before that, just imagine people... ipoh don't even have Dunkin Donuts!

people often compare Big Apple with the JCo Donuts which has lesser chain stores here in the country. i have tried JCo before anyway. its slightly sweeter than Big Apple. the dough taste is not as good on the JCo. what do you think?

well, Big Apple stores are now everywhere, almost all of the big shopping malls. they even have it in penang and east malaysia. you can check their website for the list of stores, but now i think the site is still under construction.

what i like about this shop is its donuts and coffee. Big Apple served ILLY coffee. their coffee is at an absolutely affordable price and it comes with a free glazed donut. my favorite donuts are the one with oreo and also the glazed one. their donuts dough are soft and spongy when you bite on it. the flavors are not too strong, and you certainly do get the dough taste out of it. its not overly sweet, just nice for those who don’t like sweet foods.

old town white coffee, near ipoh padang

actually i have been to old town white coffee, near ipoh padang for many times; but now only i felt that i ought to review about the place because of the uniqueness. its located right infront of the ipoh padang. pic on right shown an another view of the field.

mama had to go to one of the banks there yesterday morning. so since old town white coffee is just around the corner, we walked there while waiting for mama to settle her banking thingy.

i can assured you people that this old town white coffee shop is very different from its other branches. its placed in two lots of an old corner mansion shop houses building—


that's why i said its very unique. it also has a private room specially for private functions, meetings etc. on one lot. you don't have to pay any extra charges to use the private room. we can just booked it with condition that the estimated average rate per pax is RM5.00 only. i had a meeting there once that's how i know. while another lot housed dining area for normal customers.

i have also dined there during the evening before. at those time roughly after 6pm or so, extra tables and chairs will be placed at the out-door area. the environment out there was very nice, with the sounds and feels of the winds breezing and embracing my entire body, from top to toe... speechless!

meeting kay

*phew* at last i managed to sign-in to blogger after more than an hour trying grr...


i arrived home from ipoh about 2+ hours ago. but i had damn difficulty to sign-in here. arrgghhh...

i attended a meeting with my other friends at ipoh sales office. it was about our family day on 28 to 29 april 2007. its gonna be held at damai laut' swiss-garden golf resort & spa. i have never been there. from gan's presentation, we found that its a wonderful place. anyhow, we will see ;)

i contacted kay as soon as the meeting ended. the last time we met was in december, during my brother's wedding. kay waited for me at old town white coffee, behind tesco. it was my first time there. love the place! i definitely would recommend this place to you. the prices are reasonable too.

guess what people... both of us will turn 35 soon! our age difference is only seven days. kay will be going to perform her umrah from 6 to 15 may 2007. so that means she will be there in makkah on her birthday. but whatever it is, we plan to celebrate our 35th birthday together here; after she comes back. wohoo... can't wait. i know its gonna be great to spend some of our quality time there.

o yea... i am persuading kay to register for her own blog. yippeee!!!... at least we would have something in common also. do not forget to check kay's blog progress out very soon people... chewahh... kuE already started to promote this hehe...

one more thing before i forgot - lich, i have ordered three boxes of your favourite fruitcake with kay. i will bring them with me on saturday. see ya!

earth hour 2009: my view

half of my sunday was kinda packed with my daily morning exercises to start it out. then followed by a closing session of my former secondary school's 3D/2N PMR academic camp. puteri was involved actually. and now only i could post some updates on how i spend my earth hour 2009 as mentioned earlier.

we went to ipoh to visit an auntie, then it was dragged to earth hour. to sum it up, i don't think DBI was into the earth hour thingy. i didn't see most of their buildings switched off the lights. not even starbucks outlet! anyhow i dunno what has been happening back in kuale...

kinta city said NO-NO to earth hour, but only certain outlets participated i supposed including this coffee bean. i saw the MID and lights were off, except some lights at the counter.

it was sad when we passed thru ipoh parade earlier, we could see that the starbucks outlet there were happily operated with the lights on! walaweiiii... what has been happening to its ipoh outlet? i thought starbucks have proudly said that they were joining the event. gosh! i should have dropped-by there and ask instead lol...

whatever it is... believe it or not i am so happy to get myself this skirt at RM7.50 ONLY (after a 70% discounts) at jaya jusco... aiyooo!!! bestnyeeeee... and it matched the shoes that i was wearing ;)

a memorable unplan trip

i attended a meeting at shaidi's place yesterday. the original plan for the community programme today has been postponed to tomorrow. ok that's fine (wahhh... definitely i can't attend the penang bloggers' hike). the best thing yesterday was that shaidi brought us to gunung lang recreational park, off jalan (road) kuala kangsar, that is located very near to his place. exit from north ipoh. we were all surprised with what the park got to offer. even some of my colleagues from ipoh also dunno about that place.

yes many local people still do not aware of this recreational place due to lack of publicity. however, i don't think this place is meant for tourists and there is little to offer. it's more of a place for the local people to hang out. if you don't have much time to spare in ipoh, i suggest you to skip this place and focus your time for looking out delicious food in ipoh. you will see a calm lake surrounded by limestone hills. at the far end of the lake is a recreational park and children's playground. in order to reach there, one must pay RM3 (adult) / RM1.50 (senior citizen) for a boat ride from the jetty. at the jetty, i can see the lake is teemed with large fish hungry for food but i don't see any eagles flying around here. at the entrance of the park, you can see a chinese temple built inside the limestone cave. note that in ipoh there are many chinese temples built around or inside limestone caves i.e. perak cave and sam poh cave. we like the place so much that we told albin, our tour guide that we gonna come again to organize a company's bbq. o yes, since albin knows shaidi very well, our trip including the boat ride there were f-o-c!

naughty me

warning!!! first of all, do not misunderstood with this post' title. please read through what i am going to tell then you will know what is it all about hehe...

i was a bit surprised when the local mbb manager dropped-by my office this morning. he just would like to inform me that he is on a week leave from yesterday. his house been robbed yesterday +/- 4am by some indonesian culprits. it seems that he just came back from celcom to get a new sim card for his cell-fon line. all his valuables i.e. watch, fon, jewelleries, etc gone. the worst was that all the family members cannot do nothing cuz the robbers hand-cuffed them with rope. err... sounds scary enough.

anyhow back to what i'm gonna type. my entry this time is not about my naughtiness (got such word arr lol) with my good friend V. yes i met him yesterday but i'll tell you people about it later.

this is a story about me who totally forgot about my road-tax' expired date! hahahhaahaha... this happened on tuesday when i wanted to send puteri to her ballet class at jln iskandar shah. i was along the jln iskandar shah stretch, just a few blocks after the round-about. when suddenly i saw most of the vehicles slowing-down. i saw some officers with dark blue uniforms. then i thought to myself, "no its not the policeman, cannot be. oh my god they are from jpj". okay, there were two cars infront of me. i slowed down. what were they inspecting. i smiled. the guy was wearing his sun-glasses. so i can't figure out what he was looking at. then i saw he shooked his hand, meaning that asking me to go *phew*. i immediately asking myself again whether there's anything wrong with me or my 4wd. suddenly i thought of my road-tax. i looked further left on my windscreen and tried to read from left first- 6-0-0-2 (ok check!), c-a-m (ok check!), 1-0 (hmm...). doingg!!... 1-0?!! so it was 01 mac 2006 people! "omg omg what am i gonna do". i've to pass that same bloody road again to go back. alright relax kuE, relax... so when it was my turn again, omg another officer was going to inspect me. to my surprise, how lucky i am when that same officer who inspected me earlier told his friend that my car was ok, he has checked on me earlier *phew* (again). i was sweating like hell.

on the next day (wednesday) i have so many things to do in ipoh. oh how about my road-tax? i had such a splendid idea mann... before i left ipoh in the morning, i asked one of my staff to re-new my road-tax for me. around 10.30am, he sms' me saying that its settled fuhh... guess what. it was the first time i drove to ipoh to-and-fro for 45mins because i was really good on the plus highway, following the speed limit at 60, 80 or 110km/h huhu... i was back in the office in the evening. thus was chatting with V the other day. he was in ipoh for some work. great.

so i went to ipoh again yesterday to fix my nokia 6680. it has been corrupted by a friend grr... i sent it for service at the nokia care centre in greentown commercial centre. i left my fon there then i went to settle some other errants.

around 2.30pm, V sms me that he should be free latest by 4pm. that was not a problem. we met at his place in bandar baru tambun around 3.30pm. gosh... when i reached his place, i know i was right infront of his house number seven. at the same time i was puzzled because his car was not there. i saw a silver gti instead. so i reversed to the next house and called him. "correct lor", he said lol. he drove his other car this time. cerita punya cerita, he crashed his clk himself hahahhaha... we were so good together that day hehe... both of us were just relaxing infront of the tv watching hitz.tv while chit-chatting trying to catch-up on our up-dates. i thought of taking some pics of V's resort-style house for me to up-load them here in my blog. shy lor... anyhow i was afraid if he gonna asked me Qs. in fact we were busy talking to each toher. i think within 1.5 hours, i already knocked-down (sleeping lor!) on the couch. maybe i was so tired went in-and-out and what with the hot weather that day. i dunno what V was doing while i was sleeping. maybe he went online cuz he already fix a broadband unit in his place there. suddenly i felt that someone poked me and said. "woit! sleeping arr?". hehe... it was V teasing me. i awoke maybe around 6.45pm. we watched something on axn (forgot what was that) until 8pm. both of us left his place after that. well, V didn't tell me what was he gonna say the other day when we were chatting together. unfortunately he admit that he was too shy to tell me lol. hmm... i was still wondering what was it ;)

the day azah got married...

yes! azah married at last... congratulations dear. the solemnisation ceremony (akad nikah) was held at her family's place yesterday. but unfortunately i cannot attend it as i was at my cousin ina's wedding reception, at cempaka sari hall, silveritage galeria, the same place too for azah's wedding reception this afternoon.

guess what people. azah's wedding dais was more or less the same as zaf & jaja's. the story was like this - we met in a task force meeting at shaidi's place a few weeks ago. azah asked me about zaf's wedding. i knew it that she gonna ask that cuz she was nervous giler to prepare for her wedding stuff that time. who wont right. i asked her back whether she wanna look at the pics. so i took out my darling oly, switched it on and passed it to her. she scrolled the pics and admired them all interestingly, when suddenly she came across zaf's wedding pics in ipoh. she was like, "wow... i love this one". and here it is--

the day i only renewed my driving license today!

we were on the way back from kuala lumpur, when almost reaching ipoh that i remembered~ i still haven't renew my driving licence *glurp* and the best part was that even my dad dunno that it has been expired since 25 february. well its not that i simply dili-deli until i seems to forget to do it. i had the pic ready last week though :)

sometimes i feel like we must have at least not one but two reasons for us to do things out of our normal routine. like in my case, i prefer to renew my driving license myself; not through third party~ its rather quick where you will get it there and then. besides that you are also paying for the fees only, without any service charges by a third party! see- you can save some bits there for other thingy. and to make sure these were done efficiently, i chose to go to jpj office in ipoh. take note that there's no jpj office in kuala kangsar.

we reached ipoh around 11am, just on time before their long-hour lunch break on friday from 11.45 am to 2.45 pm *phew* and since the location (jalan kompleks sukan) is not that far from north ipoh interchange, i likeeeee...

my dad and kids waited in the car as we knew that it gonna take me a very short while only. upon reaching the office, i had to take a number first as its on a first-come-first-serve basis system. it took me quite some time to dig my old driving license from my wallet before i could get the number... walaweiii!!! the officer at the numbering counter teased me some more, "awat lama beno nak ambik lesen nye". then i thought: hey! watch your mouth. you are dealing with a blogger. this gonna be in my blog. now there you go... ;P

and that was also the reason of the old one being a duplicate copy instead.

i didn't have to wait long for my turn. they have about 9 officers in charge at the respective counters. i was kinda shocked though when i was asked to pay RM150 for a 5 years driving license. that means the fees has been increased from RM20 to RM30 per year. its not a problem actually. but it showed of how back-dated i was! heheee...

masjid & makam dato' panglima kinta

i was in ipoh yesterday morning to bring my mother to meet her brother. at the same time she mentioned that she wished to visit pom's (my late grandmother, who was also mama's mother) makam (grave). pom died on 15 august 1983. i was about 11 years old then. the last time mother went there was so many years ago before she flied to makkah for haj.

believe it or not people, that was in fact my first time going there. i didn't even know of where is pom's makam before this... how bad. its located besides masjid dato' panglima kinta, near sungai (river) kinta of course. masjid dato' panglima kinta is located at jalan (road) masjid. the easiest way to get there is to travel along jalan sultan iskandar and head towards old town. just before crossing the bridge over sungai kinta, turn left and you will see the mosque. the nearest landmark is ipoh water front (formerly people’s park) across the river. according to the man who look after the place, the mosque has just been repainted last week. look at that people, isn't it beautiful, just like buttercream! hehee... so i guess i was lucky enough and didn't let go the chance to take quite a number of pics.

"this mosque was the first in ipoh and was built in 1898 by dato' panglima kinta mohamed yusof in memory of his first wife who passed away in the same year. the most unique feature of the mosque is its original architecture. behind the mosque is the madrassah kamaliah, the first arabic islamic religious school in ipoh."

when we were on the way back, suddenly i thought that the mosque will be a great project for puteri. i remember she told me that she has to write an assignment about a heritage building in the country that is more than 100 years old hmm... at least there's something other than koleq ;) if she is okay with my suggestion, maybe i will be back there very soon insya Allah...

the coffee shop

i came across this new hang-out place called the coffee shop in sunway city, ipoh when he dropped-by my baking blog a few weeks ago i think.

my uncle ayah chulan had a wedding reception for his only son last saturday. mama suggested us to visit his family home in ipoh the day before. so i thought maybe we could have the chance to try out the coffee shop. mama also was surprised that i knew about this place beforehand. ma... this is all because of the technology lor... the pics posted on the blog really attracted me, beside the cute logo... i likeeeee!!! *big grin*

we went straight there after finishing some errands at ipoh old town, before going to ayah chulan's place. it was drizzling, so there was no front view pic from me. i parked exactly besides the shop located at a corner lot. but anyhow you could find some pics in the blog though.

there were only three stalls operated at that time by malay, chinese and indian operators who sell halal foods like malay, indian, and western food. i bet there would be more in the near future. check-out the food we ordered, along with the prices—


the food were all good, so tempting... except my mama's fried mee which was so-so as per her. while for our drinks— iced milo (RM1.70 each), fresh orange (RM2.00) and teh tarik (RM1.60). so altogether i paid for RM33.00 . not bad huh?!!... especially for the nice and great environment too.

another thing that i like is the washing area. its so unique consists of frying pan as the washing bin, placed on a charcoal stove. so many compliments, yet only one thing i would like to stressed out here, which my mother didn't like as well because her fried mee was from the malay' stall— lotsa flies liao!... flying around the food stuff there, it was so disgusting. i wonder whether the malay operators were aware of how the other stalls operators managed to take care of theirs promptly. mother was so afraid if she would ever get diarrhea later on. but thank god nothing happened *phew*

i was out the whole day in ipoh yesterday with my mother. we were looking for some stuff for lil' bro's engagement day in june i.e. fabs., sequins (i chose gold colour butterfly cuz' they look gorgeous auww... lol), etc. i'm sure lil' bro will be surprised seeing butterfly on his hantaran too hehe... my mom gonna sew the lapik semerit herself. maybe i'll help her a bit here and there ;)

azah called when we were in ipoh parade. "must be something", i thought to myself. hahahaa... yea... it IS something.


azah: *tut*, you kat mana tu.

me: i'm in ipoh.

azah: alone?

me: no. i'm with my mom. you know, my lil' bro's engagement is around the corner- in june. so both of us are here looking for some stuff for that lor.

azah: o ok. its about the dinner next week.

yes, there will be a staff' award night on next wednesday in penang.

me: yea...

azah: we have to present something. and as usual our group have to do lor... you, me, shaidi, nizam and nana to name a few. plus a few others lar.

what? we have to perform? i'm sure our staff will be laughing at us like mad lol.

azah: we gonna do some bollywood thing.

mwahahaaa... bollywood huh?!! who gonna be aishwarya rai, shahrukh khan, preity zinta or saif ali khan. now what should i wear for that nite. i have just bought a damn cute butterfly blouse that made of sequins. maybe i'll wear the punjabi suit just for the show. and guess what people. last night i dreamt that i borrowed a punjabi suit from our neighbour! all set with the glass bangles, that gundu thing, some accessories etc. hahahaa... i can't really imagine how is this gonna be like. we'll see...


o yea... i saw a card with green envelope on my desk. i was not in the whole day yesterday, remember. i unsealed it. tadaa... its my first birthday card! and its from people of the ipoh sales office (ISO)! i.e. my area managers. thank you guys ;)

"V"

a close friend V send a message via YM two days ago. its normal for me... he apologized for not being able to get in touch for so long, besides bz as alwiz, he lost his fon. an 02 dammit! told him about my +/- one-week holiday this august and asked him to guess hows my dad's look like. here's what he said... " sure panjang muka dia".

the last time we met wr around early april. i read his message that morning from YM (too) as soon as i switched-on my office puter. he told me that he wld be in ipoh for work and asked to meet me for lunch. instead i replied him thru sms to confirm with him on the appointment. so we had lunch at secret recipe, k.c. and bersembang there for hours. actually i had a lot of work to do that day but since my dad and me wr having a damn great fight that morning (biasalah, different generation, different thoughts), thats why i decided to see V. at least i cld release some of my geramness hehe...

how did i know V? well... eventually we have known each other for so many years already. we worked at the same place before when i was in subang. after quite some time there, we went off our own separate way. now, we met again maybe. the rest was history.

he told me once that the safest place for us to meet is in ipoh because no one will know us ~ my place? no way. most of the people here know me, he knows that. k.l.? jauh sekali, itupun kalau terpaksa. i think we met more in ipoh then any other places. kl maybe like twice or so ~ once during a "saya" exhibition at tropics, d.p. my sister was one of the participants, so i went there with my family to give her some supports. i didn't know much about V yet that time, vice-versa. i mean, what he was doing since we last met. thats why i were so surprised when i met him there, then only i slowly found-out that he is one of the elite well-known man in the city, also in the country. eee.... malunya. a cousin and his wife who live somewhere there also know him. his wife were asking me, "u pun kenal dia?". i juz smiled and angguk-angguk. he also started knowing more about me then.

hmm... we met once in his place in ipoh in december. let me say that it was a nite to remember tho' for both of us. hey... no s-- okay, he only fulfill his promised of doing some massage on me blah blah blah...

gee... enough about V, maybe more some other time huh?!! lol... this is end-of-month lor... still have piles of works on my desk i.e. audit, reports, etc. i have to send them to the sales office by mid of next week!!! grr...

of good thingy about facebook

i was so surprised when i saw my cupcake pics up on my cousin fek's fb profile pic. i didn't really expect that at all ler...

anyhow fek's birthday was yesterday. fyi fek is my second cousin, whose also charlie's cousin. actually i dunno about her birth date, till i saw a birthday alert on my fb hehe... so i postponed my original plan of ipoh trip to yesterday since i wanna surprise fek. i baked the cupcakes in the morning. then i packed them nicely in a specially designed window box with ribbon that i made myself. the box was actually a store bought. i cut the top flap in to a window. after that i paste it with plastic and ribbon accordingly. go here to view the cupcakes pics. take note that i chose red and yellow as they are of fek's company corporate colours ;)

i left home for ipoh with my puteri and megat, after 3.30pm. unfortunately we didn't manage to see fek as her staff said that she was just left, when we arrived at her office in jelapang around 4.15pm. it was rather wet when we were approaching ipoh. if not the journey would normally take less than 30 minutes or so... at last we left the cupcakes with fek's staff. she was so happy with the surprises. i make sure not to load the cupcakes pic on fb before we left, cuz i was afraid if fek would knew it before we come. she dun read my blog, so it was okay for me to load the pics in my baking blog first 8)

on another note, mom was kinda shocked too that i knew fek's birthday. she did ask me about it that morning.

"apa lagi... 'penangan facebook' ler", i told her hehe...

she quickly added, "ok ler tu..." :)

bah turned 81 today!

bah's fon was kinda hot liao from as early as 7am, started with my lil' sis. everyone from far and near called in to wish her happy birthday. even right until tonight when we were in ipoh. bah's voice was out-of-control. i have to help her to speak to some of them, no harm huh?!!...

not like last year', we just had a very simple but nice and fun buka puasa treat at pakeeza in ipoh. that's also our first buka puasa outside. gosh... looking at THAT post i realized now that i supposed to write the second part of the birthday story but how come i didn't do so?!!... *glurp* wargghhh... i guess its all with the matter of t-i-m-e!

alright to cut the story short, it was my original plan to gather closed family members and friends for bah's surprised lunch-cum-80th-birthday-party-celebration. the actual date was on a sunday, so it was just nice. food were catered by an ipoh caterer that we called pak adam (i'll check-out the company's details. we catered him for my lil' bro's wedding dinner too) and decorations were done by beauty balloon.

i brought bah to penang on saturday morning, along with puteri and megat. all of us kept the secret from megat too, besides bah cuzzzzz... he can't keep a secret lol... so eventually when we arrived home on that sunday afternoon, megat was surprised too! and of course bah was really shocked indeed, seeing her home had been nicely arranged and decorated tents with yellow and purple balloons. go here for a sneak peek of the party pics ;)

o yes.. before i forgot, what do you think of the baju kedah that i wore in the pic above. it was actually bah's hehee... she bought the material in jakarta if i'm not mistaken. she wore it once and now its mine! well she gave it to me of course. i wore it with a black pants :D

the day we celebrate in ipoh

it was pink & white in kl, while here in ipoh was grey. the kenduri this time was lovely. family, relatives and friends from all walks of life came from far and near, not forgetting the groom's relatives from grik who came by a few buses.

the best thing was that daniel's family all was so happy to meet our family too especially bah (grandmother) and my parents. why you asked? well... eventually their earlier generations till now were our neighbour! since they knew our family very well, i could see how kind they were to bah and my mom and dad... till they packed us three sets of the lauk-pauk. ada ka? lol... at first we were kinda shy. but on a second thought, since they have generously given the food to us, tak pe lar kan... hehe...

the bride entourage (including us) arrived at the hall around 1.15 pm. after i finished eating around 2.45 pm, i looked around, just to see in case i knew anyone there. i was so surprise when i saw hairy sitting at a table behind me. of course he was stunned too lol... so we chat like no one business. he also introduced me to his wife, "ini kuE (but of course he mentioned my real life nickname), jai punya". hmm... both of my big and round eyes turned more bigger. he smiled at me. the wife too. fyi people, hairy is rizal's elder brother ;) and what really a small world we could say - hairy's wife is daniel's (the groom) cousin! then... i thought that hairy will definitely tell rizal about it. my guess was right... that i received a sms from rizal on my way back home, asking about the meet with hairy :)

japanese flags in the royal town

a writer from bernama wrote mainly about ipoh. from what we understand, emperor akihito and empress michiko of japan will visit kuale on 10 june 2006. they will only be arriving from sultan azlan shah airport in ipoh around 9am. roads to kuale will be closed as soon as they reached ipoh. looks like we can't go out anywhere too. from there they will be coming here right away. among their visit spots are include mckk (they supposed to do this during mckk's 100th year celebration last year), galeri sultan azlan shah and sungai (river) perak where the royal couples wanted to experience the boat ride from one jetty to another.

puteri & me' specialities

good morning people.

i know by the time i'm typing this, Leilanie is already on the plus highway, driving her way to ipoh with her hubby and some relatives if i'm not mistaken. she sms me about 10 minutes ago saying that she has just left home. we gonna meet in ipoh for lunch. they are so eager to try ipoh hor fun (flat noodles).

here's a self-pic of puteri and me while we were doing some baking last night. we baked two short-bread biscuits- one for Leilanie and one for home ;)

my dad came to the kitchen following the smell of the biscuits. he asked of whose that for this time.

short-bread again?", my dad asked. both puteri and me nodded.

"haa... this is like your specialities. since you two are great in baking this, why don't you just sell this with a reasonable price." added my dad.

"what???", i was terribly surprised with my dad's comment.

"yea... why not." he continued. then he left.

hmm... are we going through a new chapter?
