let's help save temengor!

waking up on a beautiful sunday morning to the chirping of birds and hens, i remember that i haven't post this~

P5023014

if you have been my blog readers and followers, i am sure you are all truly aware that i always pledge for us no matter where we are in the globe to save the mother earth! it's not that hard to bring shopping and/(or) recycle bags with us whenever we go shopping. as you could see in the above pic (that was taken about two weeks ago), i brought quite a number of extra shopping bags and placed them all in one! and it's no harm at all for a shop that support environment if you use a different bag other than theirs; the most important thingy is as long as we save the environment i.e. we saved at least a plastic bag! i will show you people a tip of the easiest way to carry more bags, in my upcoming blog post soon... ;)

and now, i pledge everyone to save the temengor too! its located in the northern state of perak, the belum-temengor forest complex, in the state of perak is over 130 million years old, older than the amazon and congo basins, subsequently much more complex in biodiversity.

the contiguous belum-temengor forest spans across a massive 300,000 hectares; approximately four times the size of singapore. it forms the last remaining contiguous tract of forest in peninsular malaysia, which is outside the national protected area system. with a huge diversity of flora and fauna, it allows malaysia to be recognized as one of the 12 mega-biodiversity centres in the world.

we strongly believe that given the opportunity, belum and temengor areas are more valuable under conservation management, rather than being converted to other uses, or developed solely for the extraction of their natural resources.

as such, legal protection of these treasures would go a long way towards sustaining the biological diversity our tropical rain forests.

anyone who wants to support mns in pushing the government to extend protection to temenggor can participate in its ‘save temengor’ campaign which is supported by the body shop.

the petition for temengor's gazettement is at www.thepetitionsite.com/1/savetemengor2010. the petition can also be signed at any the body shop outlets.

*info about temengor is from the body shop.

earth hour 2009: my view

half of my sunday was kinda packed with my daily morning exercises to start it out. then followed by a closing session of my former secondary school's 3D/2N PMR academic camp. puteri was involved actually. and now only i could post some updates on how i spend my earth hour 2009 as mentioned earlier.

we went to ipoh to visit an auntie, then it was dragged to earth hour. to sum it up, i don't think DBI was into the earth hour thingy. i didn't see most of their buildings switched off the lights. not even starbucks outlet! anyhow i dunno what has been happening back in kuale...

earth hour 2009: my view

first things first: ensure all the lights were off before we went out!
"good job gurl..." ;)

unfortunately most of the shops at first garden were not that aware of earth hour!

earth hour 2009: my view

pics around ipoh city, clockwise from top left: (1) ipoh... no earth hour meh?; (2) jalan raja di hilir; (3) further up along jalan raja di hilir and (4) thumbs up to shell! this was taken at jalan sultan azlan shah. i parked the car by the road side for a while with the hazard lights on, to take this pic :)

earth hour 2009: my view

kinta city said NO-NO to earth hour, but only certain outlets participated i supposed including this coffee bean. i saw the MID and lights were off, except some lights at the counter.

it was sad when we passed thru ipoh parade earlier, we could see that the starbucks outlet there were happily operated with the lights on! walaweiiii... what has been happening to its ipoh outlet? i thought starbucks have proudly said that they were joining the event. gosh! i should have dropped-by there and ask instead lol...

earth hour 2009: my view

whatever it is... believe it or not i am so happy to get myself this skirt at RM7.50 ONLY (after a 70% discounts) at jaya jusco... aiyooo!!! bestnyeeeee... and it matched the shoes that i was wearing ;)

24 hours to go!!!...

just a reminder that tomorrow night is EARTH HOUR!

i think its great for awareness of global warming. sure, an hour isn't going to save the planet, but it will make some difference. my lights will be off for sure!

mama asked me to bring her to ipoh to visit a sick aunt tomorrow, so i will probably be there till earth hour. maybe we can drop-by starbucks if we are up to it. i understand that they are giving 20% discounts on beverage items during that period liao! weee...

before we go out, we are going to switch EVERYTHING off (probably at the mains maybe to save going round switching clock etc... off) and then keep some candles in the car, as well as some more candles around the house.

have you registered? if you do, you go in the draw to win a toyota prius :D

what will you be doing tomorrow night?

what will you be switching off?

earth hour 2009

i am so glad that i have been invited by a taiwanese to join Earth Hour 2009 全球熄燈環保行動 (8:30PM Saturday 28 March 2009 ) this morning. and did i accept the invite? of course, as this for a good cause... and after browsing here and there for some information on this, i am more glad to know that nuffnang is one of their supporting partners for earth hour malaysia. congratulations nuffnang along with other supporting partners for the effort to support earth hour 2009!

so what's earth hour?
it’s as simple as a flick of the switch.

what began as a campaign to get sydneysiders to turn their lights off, has grown to become one of the world’s biggest climate change initiatives. in 2009, at 8.30pm on march 28, people around the world will turn their lights for one hour— earth hour. we’re aiming to reach one billion people, more than 1000 cities, all joining together in a global effort to show that its possible to take action on global warming.

earth hour started in 2007 in sydney, australia with 2.2 million homes and businesses turning their lights off for one hour. only a year later and this event had become a global sustainability movement with up to 50 million people across 35 countries participating. global landmarks such as the golden gate bridge in san francisco, rome’s colosseum and the coca cola billboard in times square, all stood in darkness, as symbols of hope for a cause that grows more urgent by the hour.

earth hour 2009 is a global call to action to every individual, every business and every community. a call to stand up, to take responsibility and to get involved in working towards a sustainable future. iconic buildings and landmarks from europe to the americas and malaysia(?) will stand in darkness. people across the world will turn off their lights and join together in creating the vital conversation about the future of our precious planet.

over 64 countries and territories are participating in earth hour 2009. this number grows every day as people realize how such a simple act, can have such a profound result in affecting change.

earth Hour is a message of hope and a message of action. everyone can make a difference.
