line dancing ― my fun exercise

i saw a tweet by churp churp yesterday asking whether we have submitted an entry for their next movie screening. normally i would see the movie name first before i do it. i was thinking its been quite some time i didn't go for one, besides i merely active in blogging too. yea... its been off and on since i promised myself, for my new year resolutions i remember. but sometimes things when crappy i got no choice to change it a bit. and now, my blog went 'live' again after less than 2 months or so. i will blog about it in an another post.

and here's my entry for the #StreetDance2 ―

bet no one here aware about line dancing!............ and such its my favorite types of dance indeed― because line dance now is not just about country music, its involved all genre of music i.e. hip hop, jazz, latin, cha cha, jive, you name it~

line dancing is fun. it is good to exercise. this way i can have some regular exercise and enjoy myself too. i find it more enjoyable than just sweating at the gym. there is great music to dance to and it hardly seems like exercise at all. don't worry about not sweating it out as the more energetic dances will ensure you do. there are line dance parties i can attend as well where you can dance to your heart's content. it is great way to make new friends too.

with line dancing i don't have to worry about lack of a partner or that i would be stepping on the toes of my partner. i find most dance class students are women whatever the dance. ballroom dancing means i would have to look for a partner and they really are a scarce bunch! so i go for line dancing any time.

take fake ID from the movie footloose 2011 for an example. for you to know, its actually a line dance choreographed by jamal sims. you could browse the official video on youtube. but here i include a video from a yearly line dance event my line dancing friends and i attended last december, in jb! we are real line dancers trying to have some fun with the dance... ツ

there's a lot more to brag about line dancing actually. i could go on, and on, and on..... or else watch out for this label in my blog.

the day i feel blessed i have my own place...

the day is almost over. i should have gone to a line dance party that is being held now somewhere on the other part of the city. and to think there's no more rapidkl bus services by the time the party over, i decided not to go with some good excuses i.e. grand auntie just passed away last thursday and that, i have to give some due respect to her. in fact links, pics, about it have been posted and shared in my fb page. so my line dancing friends should have known the proof there... *winks* i am not keen in taking taxi as i find the prices are damn ridiculous! but if in certain case maybe. i don't want to take the risk of going back home alone on a taxi at late night. would you, ladies?

anyhow i did text someone dearie who apparently stays near the hall ― told her about the party and my intention to sleep-over at her place after the party is over. i have promised myself, if ok, i will go off as early as i can... there was no response after an hour. so i told myself if by 2:00 pm or 2:30 pm there's still nothing from her, i would better stay at home. and now is close to 7 hours since i asked her. i doubt she's into the idea. if not for sure she answers me immediately or so. its alright. i know where i stand.

luckily i managed myself accordingly last 3 weeks ― when i attended a company annual dinner, that was held near her place as well. and that... will be written in an another blog post.

i stayed with my lil' sister when i first started to work here in the city last end january. it was not easy. her place is very far. i had to follow her to a lrt station and take it from there and the list went on... this is the time where i feel blessed i have my own place. although i am sharing with a friend, but still, i am all on my own... one of the advantages of staying alone is our life and whatever we do can be more flexible. i totally agree with earl's 101 reasons to stay single. his points are all oh so true!

on the other hand, yes, i have to be alert no matter whenever or wherever i am.

it was on the same day last week at stampark hall, i attended the line dance workshop by simon ward, an aussie choregrapher! it was a full day event, where by a dinner & dance themed swingin' 70's was held at night.

and as you know, when we talked about theme parties, i likeeeee... i got my auntie to sew my dress again!

maybe i shall blog more about the trip soon... as i arrived kuching two days ealier to have some time on my own. this blog post was meant to be a quick one anyway. i am out shortly for a bloggers' event i missed for quite some time...

friday favourite: rachael mcenaney

i believe this is my second friday favourite! sowey there was none last week as i enjoyed myself in jakarta through-out the whole weekend... w00tz! i wanna sit down and write about it someday. so watch this space for the updates ya. or better still, i have not even upload the pics on my flickr yet; but to those of you people who is on my fb list, i am sure you have seen some of the pics that i have posted... ツ

basically my trip to jakarta was all about 'lansing'. and talking about lansing (line dancing), do read more about the benefits here. some people still had the old thinking that line dancing is for older generations, maybe because when line dancing started it was almost all country music. but now since most styles of music is catered for it including rock & roll, swing, pop and chart music; many young people have come into the picture.

line dancers around the world knows rachael mcenaney. in fact she is one of my favourite line dance choreographers. she was born with a family background of ballroom and latin champions will celebrate her 30th birthday this august. this year is probably her best year in terms of achievement and awards. will she reach higher ground? we're sure she will, especially with her love of dance. since 4, she has discovered and trains in many different forms of dance including ballet, tap, jazz, ballroom, latin, salsa, hip hop and many others.

rachael finished college in 1999 with excellent GCES results and A levels in sports studies, french & german. rachael began teaching linedance in york, england at the young age of 15 and she completed her first competition at the UCWDC european championships in 1999 and emerged as a star the following year. since then, she has won numerous accolades and awards for her instruction and choreography (see her achievement & awards here). according to her, she was inspired by at least the following personalities: rob fowler, pedro machado, jo thompson szymanski and paul mcadam among others.

among most of her choreographies that became local line dancers' favourite: jesse james, BCO, snap your fingers, and ooh! i like that. i practiced with my lansing friends to the latter last week in pj, and ooh! i like that... we had so much fun and laughter...

alice in wonderland costumes

i happened to want to attend a fairy tale line dance party two weeks ago... when alice in wonderland wandered around my mind ever since i first knew about the party. it also made me wonder if there is such a thing as a alice in wonderland costume out there?

after some research, not only did i find some alice costumes, but also found out loads of interesting stuff about where the story comes from.

the animated film alice in wonderland that i was watching made it's premier way back in 1951 and was produced by walt disney but the original story comes from the book alice's adventures in wonderland which was written way back in 1865 by an english author called charles lutwidge dodgson under the pseudonym lewis carroll.

the book is basically about a girl named alice who falls down a rabbit hole into a fantastic world populated by creatures that have human like features.

many of the main characters of alice in wonderland and through the looking-glass, a book written later by lewis carroll have made their way into popular culture and thus there are also many fancy dress costumes based on alice in wonderland and through the looking-glass.

in some more detail, the main characters and where you can find the costumes are listed below:

alice in wonderland costumes

the character of alice often said to be based on alice liddell, a child friend of dodgson's. but dodgson himself said many times that his 'little heroine' was not based on any real child, but was entirely fictional. alice in the books is a logical girl, even pedantic, especially with humpty dumpty in the second book. according to through the looking-glass, she is seven and a half years old. alice in wonderland takes place on may 4th, alice liddell's birthday. through the looking glass takes place on november 4th, her half-birthday and alice even says that she is "seven-and-a-half - exactly."

alice is often shown wearing a pale blue knee-length dress with a white pinafore overtop, although the dress originally was yellow in the nursery aAlice", the first coloured version of alice's adventures in wonderland, that you can find in many alice in wonderland costumes. her blonde hair is held back with a wide black ribbon, and because of this they are now commonly called "alice bands".

the one that i wore was specially tailor-made for me by an aunt back in hometown. i was there about two weeks before the party. none of the local tailors willing to sew the dress. then i remembered that my aunt is the one whom i know that is really good in sewing. trust me people, i just showed her this pic and what an amazing job she did! i, as her niece of course was really proud wearing the dress that day... ツ

the white rabbit costume

the white rabbit appears at the very beginning of the book alice's adventures in wonderland, he wears a waistcoat, and mutters "oh dear! oh dear! i shall be too late!" alice eventually follows him down the rabbit hole into wonderland. the rabbit shows up again towards the end of the book, as a herald-like servant of the king and queen of hearts.

there are many white rabbit costumes and fancy dress outfits on the web and many even have waist coats, even the rabbit from playboy has a waistcoat and many can be used if you cannot find a "real" white rabbit costume.

the queen of hearts costume

the queen of hearts in alice and wonderland is a foul-tempered monarch, that carroll himself pictured as "a blind fury", she is quick to pass death sentences at the slightest offence. her most famous line in the book and one which she repeats often, is "off with their heads!"

the queen of hearts costumes are some of the best looking fancy dress outfits i have ever seen, even if you are not planning on a alice in wonderland theme, you could use these costumes just to be a queen of whatever!

the king of hearts

the king of hearts, when compared to the queen of hearts, is pretty moderate in the wonderland government. for example, when the queen, who enjoys ordering people to be beheaded, attempts to have alice executed because she was unable to answer who is lying down in front of her, the king of hearts reminds the queen that she is only a child.

other characters in alice and wonderland include and some of them shouldn't be too difficult to find generic costumes:

• the lory


• the eaglet


• the duck


• bill the lizard


• the caterpillar


• the duchess


• the cheshire cat


• the hatter


• the march hare


• the dormouse


• the knave of hearts


• the gryphon


• the mock turtle

although tweedledee, tweedledum, humpty dumpty, and the jabberwock are often thought to be characters in alice in wonderland, they actually come from through the looking-glass, but are sometimes included in film versions of the book.

anyway i hope that if you are looking for fancy dress costumes from alice in wonderland, i have in some way made the task easier as well as filled you in on a few facts from the story!

old one, it is!...

hi all...

it's been a while since my last post. yaaa... kind of busy lately. in fact i always mentioned no matter here or on my twitter or fb; i have lotsa things to blog about, yet i have so little time to do them all duh!

alright so mom has always been talking about a nephew's (her grand-nephew) wedding lately that would be held in mid-december. i would say that it will be a lavish wedding reception in a 5-stars hotel in the heart of kuala lumpur.

finally i told mom this morning that i will just wear an old baju that i bought from a grand-aunt. grand-aunt went to bukittinggi, in indonesia many years ago. i asked her to buy me like 7 (yes, 7!) embroidery tops with different colours and designs of course. bukittinggi is famous with those kind of handicraft (view them here).

the clothes that i have are just fine. if i had a billion dollars, i would probably save most of it. i am not going to buy new things until i need them, not simply because i have the money. when i am a billionaire who will care about my appearance and look down at me? i am not very care about the clothes and just clean and comfortable would be good to me. not the expensive the better. and i have a manner that my clothes are picked by myself and i do not even want to throw them away when it broken. so i would like to wear old clothes even when i am a billionaire already.

so when ayu asked about what fredom is in her tweet just now, this is it! i will do what's best for me, and no one could say anything about it.

my cousin pointed out that the theme colour for her son's wedding reception is dusky pink. well if i ever get myself a new baju, its not that i could wear it often anyway. unless its a casual wear like denim pants, skirts, etc. i would still wear them mix-and-match with other clothes that i already have in my wardrobe.

you know what my mom said when i told her about my intention? it seems that the baju is no more "in"! walaweiii... so what? i don't care what people gonna say. unless if my cousin willing to buy one for me that's good enough. i always believe, as long as i wear it nicely, it would still look nice and good no matter what. i would definitely look different what's more when i will do something to my hair like this. in fact the baju that i wore to that event is an old one as well: a white top that i bought from uluwatu boutique at the curve some time ago [take note that its not cheap, occay?], with white pants.

and take a look at this. i attended a 'perfect 10' line dance party in penang in october. that's what i came out finally to a theme of masquerade party:

• a black cotton flare skirt that my tailor sew at a cost of RM48. i was thinking that i could still wear this kind of skirt to other occasions in the future.


• a black top and high-heel shoes that i own from long time ago.


• luckily i got the eye mask from a local shop, that cost me RM3.20 only! i saw exaactly the same at toys 'r us, in gurney plaza and the cost was much more expensive.

and talking about getting a new clothes, i am just on the look-out for a red colour pants. i am following my kl line dancing friends to a line dance event in jb, in 9 days. so that seems the only item that i don't have so far.

wide awake!

haluuu... i am awoke now when everybody's sleeping. guess this happens everytime i wanna travel; yesh! am travelling again peeps, but haven't pack yet! bad.

well the feelings are always like this whenever i have to travel:

• should i pack early or not: end-up its always a last minute packing like now
.
• some of the reasons of not packing early: dunno of what to bring, end-up bring more clothes/things than needed. well its good too what... in case there's an emergency or something and maybe had to put some extra stays etc(?).


• butterflies flying in the stomach: although i experienced travelling alone many times already but still... duh!

i know i know... to sum it up, i have to improve this someway or somehow for my own good ツ

anyhow i was damn happy yesterday when i took the chance to join my seniors at a mini-meetup here in kualé. it was good to be there. and to tell you the truth, it was my first time too to meet them, after i left school. well except with kak suzie who eventually became my manager at the merdeka line dance idol in august.

oh, gosh! sorry peeps... i haven't got the chance to blog about the first ever line dance competition that i entered. well its already in the draft folder ya... at the meantime you could view the video by clicking the floating image of me receiving the certificate... hah!

after the quick meetup with them at a local café, we adjourned: i had to fetch megat while they went and gate-crashed our school!

from the pics obviously you could guess that our school has her own history. the first pic showed the main building where it used to be the residence of j.w.w. birch, the first british resident of perak.

the second one was a pic taken from the main building's tower warghhh!!!... to tell you all the truth, i haven't been up there myself yet! you could have a very nice view of kualé. take note that our school is located on the hill of bukit kerajaan.

to all my kakak-kakak, i missed you all already!

are you moist enough?

being a busy mom of 2 growing-up kids, both in primary and secondary school isn’t that easy. sun lights can age you, she always wanna look her best, and fatigue can dull your skin. here’s how kuE manage to still look fresh, and vibrant after all that WHEN she give you advice on how to take good care of your skin, you listen. and listen well~

i have always been praised for having vibrant and young, healthy-looking skin. on top of that i also have always been mistaken as my dd puteri's sister... hah! even fellow blogger friends i met at the nuffnang sharing session at modesto's capsquare recently was shocked at first though, when i mentioned that i was the eldest in the group :)

well i believe in and actually apply lotions on my skin—is something special for me. taking care of my skin is a top priority. i always make sure i get to clean and moisturize my skin because you never know when age is going to catch up on you. for me, having great skin is important because it’s a sign of being healthy. i never sleep with make-up still on my face. i wash my face day and night and whenever i feel it’s needed.

i like to keep things simple. aside from eating healthy, getting enough rest is a must for me to ensure that i get healthy, glowing skin. and as you could see, line dance is part of my passion now. i in fact is promoting line dancing as an alternative exercise activity-it is much more fun than sweating at the gym!!!

honestly, because of my busy schedule, the only time i get to pamper my skin and body is during bath time, which takes about an hour and a half at most. of course, this is the time i put on the lotion afterwards. i make sure i get a lotion that smells good and leaves no greasy feeling while making my skin soft.

when i get time off, i enjoy a good book in my room.

first of all, congratulations to dD for winning the best costume title at the lg cookie monster party organized by nuffnang recently. what i could say here is that its really worth your effort!

and thank god with the blog post this morning i saw on fb, i realized that i haven't ready myself for the perfect 10 masquerade line dance party 2010, organized by my lǎoshī, i might be attending.

so since the party is going to be held in penang island, i doubt that i would better look for costume shops there. i am in the mid of trying to search for them online, but it simply ain't easy... i will be very grateful if any of you penangites could recommend me of where i should head to. please leave notes in the comment box or email me.

the thingy is i lurveeeee costume party. i grabbed one of the best dressed title at the christmas line dance party i joined last year ;)

not just that, i also adore dressing up... for a very simple example, i was at an indian wedding not too long ago~ so 'saree' it is! more pics can be viewed here :))

the day i am being offered as a CJ...

i merely dunno what to say when an international firm offered me as a citizen journalist (CJ). as soon as i read the offer, i told myself: i will definitely accept it, for sure! as you could see, i am free to write about both the local and global news, happening and what's not. we are talking about more extra money here... but on the other hand, i must ensure to write interesting topics cuz i am so not into those politic-mitik kind of thingy hah! :)

the idea behind citizen journalism is that people without professional journalism training can use the tools of modern technology and the global distribution of the internet to create, augment or fact-check media on their own or in collaboration with others.

for an example,

• you might write about a city council meeting on your blog or in an online forum.


• fact-check a newspaper article from the mainstream media and point out factual errors or bias on your blog.


• you might snap a digital photo of a newsworthy event happening in your town and post it online.


• you might also videotape a similar event and post it on a site such as youtube.

when i am damn crazy about 'hoedown throwdown'...

and this is the line dance version. and believe it or not, i lurve to do this dance! i haven't record a video of mine though. wait and see ler... if one of these days i am up to it... ;)

so basically hoedown means a square dance, the music for a square dance, or a social gathering at which square dancing takes place.

the most popular sense of the term is associated with white americans in rural or southeastern parts of the country, particularly appalachia. it is a dance in quick movement most likely related to the jig, reel or clog dance. according to the website "streetswing", a hoedown was a virtuoso display of footwork, where a succession of dancers each tried to outdo the previous dancers. this meant that if the last dancer was the best one the audience would cheer wildly. the implied meaning of "improvised jam" has found its way into other contexts. for an example a rollerblading hoedown is a similar competitive display.

as you people could see, some of you may know that i was there at gatsby deodorant steet fair. i am still in the mid of uploading/editing the pics from my oly anyway. so the blog post should be up anytime soon.

at first i thought that i wanna gate-crashed a line dance party held at ttdi community hall, right after i finished with the above' event. unfortunately i was too tired for that. and since it was raining, i guess that its better if i go straight back home. and if i did also~ i will be charged more than usual by the taxi drivers. you know: kl! anyhow like i tweet earlier, i not just forgot to bring shoes for the gatsby street fair, but i also didn't bring any dancing shoes!

so once i reached kl sentral, i bought burger king take-out for dinner; before i continued my journey. relaxing at home is much more better... besides that, i so lovin' the fast internet speed here~ heaven! *peace*

i have been involved in line dance for more than 15 months now. not just as passion, it could also keep me going and fit!

and when i found out that nuffnang and gatsby will be teamed up for gatsby deodorant street fair, which is happening on:

time: 10 am – 5 pm
venue: front foyer, ground floor, berjaya times square, kuala lumpur;

i thought to myself: oh! i am not gonna missed this. i shall take some time off from my line dance activities. at least there are something different for me to go up and about. i am very sure that its gonna be a fun and happening day!

i understand that there will be some lucky draws and various cool gadgets worth up to RM15,000 up for grabs! besides that, among the exciting games on that day – sumo wrestling (in air bag suits!), gladiator battles and other amusing and addictive games you would expect at a fun-fair! go here for more info.

I'M BACK!

hey people!

omigosh! i abandoned you for so long... everyone kept asking me to update my blog and i am so sorry... hah! so here's some updates like what i could think off right now~

1. i have quite a number of back-dated blog post in my blog' draft folder. and as i mentioned many times before, that will be coming out no matter what. so please bear with me if you find them annoying.


2. my darling puteri and handsome megat are growing up fast! that most people really thought we are siblings instead of mother and her children. i know i know the last pic of them was seen here during the last hari raya. you could obviously look for it in the archives :)

5. a friend and i opened a line dance studio since last 2 february. i am so proud of ourselves. i have created a blog here, but i am afraid its nothing much there yet.


6. i guess i lost my capabilities to learn german as i didn't get good support and encouragement from mr z. duh(?!!)...


7. i want new clothes.


8. i need a dancing shoes for me to enjoy my linedancing more.


9. i am loosing my patience.

christmas is just around the corner...

believe it or not people i have never attended any christmas party when i moved back here. so the 'christmas line dance party' in ipoh that i went with intan and mrs teh on last friday night, was kind of the first one for me since then. it was truly great and enjoyable. we really enjoyed ourselves sooooo much!

you know people when i first started line dancing earlier this year, i didn't expect to have this kind of fun time at all. so as you could see now people its not that bad staying in this part of the globe. i have even been to line dance carnival in penang few weeks ago. i know i know i still owe the blog post that's in my draft folder mind you! so no sweat i will post about it no matter what~ better late than never huh?!! anyway i have made up my mind to try my very best to release all the blog post in the draft folder asap at least before the year ends... looks like i have to find some time for a self blogging marathon *phew*

alright, one thing's best about attending a costume or theme party is that i could dress-up as much as i could. and as the result, i brought home a hamper sponsored by yee hup for the best dressed title... woot! you could view me with the hamper pictured as the thumbnail of the party vid (later part of this blog post). on the other hand, if you have been a follower of my twitter, i am very sure that you have already known by now about this than anyone else from this tweet.

although some people may find that my costume was very simple— i just went for a bling bling red top with white skirt, and a pair of black boots, and not forgetting a small bling bling christmas hat! but i trust that if you follow the theme correctly, and with at least a bit of effort (take note that i did my hair myself!)... i am sure that you will get a big chance there. oh btw i have been dubbed as one of the santa's elves by an online american friend :))

and another thing that i would like to point out~ this kind of party is a bit different than any other christmas party, as we got to meet some other line dancers and line danced together with them along all kind of musics like country, waltz, rock and roll, and what ever you name it... even hip hop! so don't get the interpretation wrong that line dance is for old people only. you are definitely wrong! make sure you watch our new found line dancing friend shan in the following video. he danced to fuego perfectly i tell you!

and of course there's more of me in the video too thanks to more of our new found line dancing friends hamidah and her gang~

i could obviously say that the party would not be successful with the great organization by the organizer chris ng, who is also a line dance instructor in ipoh. thank you so much chris for the great party! we will surely come back next time...

"paragon of fashion"

i have been called as "paragon of fashion" by harjinder, a junior of my school. it started when i saw this on a canadian fb friend's status:

so after i typed a word about heather, i copy and paste the above on my fb status. i was kinda eager too to see of what people would say about me. it was an honour for me though to find out that there are some people who secretly adore me for my fashion. i just dunno what to say but that's me! i guess harjinder could see it from our school days till now. basically i lurve to dress up according to the occasions, functions or events i am attending. i dunno about you, but for me i would definitely feel odd if i don't wear according to the theme...

like recently when i attended a chinese wedding, i wore cheongsam (i know i know i didn't blog about this YET)! guest were kinda impressed seeing me. even most of the chinese people themselves don't wear their traditional clothes during functions like that :(

and i wonder if you could still remember about an indian wedding that i posted some time early this year. i chose to wear lehnga. ayuuuuu... you could read it here, plus more close-up pics of their wedding traditions.

i also owned áo dài, a vietnam traditonal clothes that my dad bought it tailor-made for me during his vietnam trip many years ago.

besides lehnga, i have wore saree too at a company dinner some time ago. it was a bollywood theme. i chose to wear saree to create something different from other people. i wanted to show them that malay girls can wear saree too... then voila!

well, all the above pics were part of the other clothes that i wore apart from the normal baju kurung or kebaya. and now, i am in the mid of thinking of what to wear for a christmas line dance party that i am going to attend next week. any idea people? ;P

quickie!!!

yes!!!... this is a very quick one~

i went to penang the whole day yesterday for 2009 penang international line dance carnival people! it was no doubt a very great one, truly organized well enough for an international event. but only one thing that i would like to complaint about it. well i guess i will wait for an another blog post before i tell you, that i will type specially for the event.

i started my sunday early because i am going to ipoh in a few hours with some line dancing friends to learn 1malaysia line dance fuhhh... what a sunday to start it early huh?!! anyhow if you follow me on twitter here, i am sure that you already knew by now that i have been active with line dancing events here and there. yes... i guess i mentioned this before— although i seldom blog nowadays, twitter (which is also known as mini-blog) helps a lot. in fact i have so many thingy to blog actually, yet i had so lil' time to do it huhuu...

so at the meantime, i will leave you people with some beautiful *glurp* pics of my trip to penang by ferry. i think the last time i took the ferry was during my school days hehee... that's why i decided to take the ferry instead. ok okie... more story-mory later...
