the most talk bloggers' event of the blogosphere...

i mentioned here that there are currently some most talk bloggers' event of the blogosphere. i bet you IZEAFest is on top of the list now~

see what i mean? you people don't know of how i really wished to be there in seaworld orlando right now, with the rest of the bloggers. i felt so lucky anyway when i got the chance to watch some of the speakers last night liz strauss and brett bumeter, streaming live online courtesy of ustream. the talks were very good and informative.

and believe me people! this pic below will melt your heart. thanks to ben spark. he upload the pic from the venue straight to his flickr album via flickr mobile huhuu... more live pic uploaded by other bloggers/twitterers can be viewed here =)

width="299"

if only i can get corporate companies or individuals (ehem...) to grant my wish for the same event next year fuhhh! i would be on cloud 9 i tell you guaranteed!!!... but who knows right people. with all of the hardwork and all... wish me luck ok :)

and here's why i am so excited about joining IZEAFest: i have been with them for quite some time already... kaching! kaching!

first i joined payperpost some time in january last year. followed by socialspark in may, same year. then recently i hooked up with sponsored tweets about 3 months ago. they are all under izea. not just that, i also has been selected as one of their TEDHead's! crew. the group was formed as a way to share the excitement of the new izea insider's program which began in january 2009. i am glad that i joined these bunch of people. they are all very nice and helpful. this has been proven that even though i may not known locally, but i am well received there. well if you haven't already, you better do it now people. do get more info about it in my blog, or email me for further queries and clarifications and i will try my very best to help you as far as i could :~)

alright then, since i was not able to make it to IZEAFest; my only hope now is for nuffnang asia-pacific blog awards! i doubt that its one of the most talk bloggers' event of the blogosphere as well especially in the asia-pacific, mainly malaysia, singapore, australia and phillippines. i have already submitted my first blog post to get an invite to the event. my second one is coming up very soon. so see you all there!...

lantern festival celebration

according to wikipedia: the lantern festival 元宵节 is a chinese festival celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first month in the lunar year in the chinese calendar. it is not to be confused with the mid-autumn festival, which is also sometimes known as the "lantern festival" in locations such as singapore, malaysia. during the lantern festival, children go out at night to temples carrying paper lanterns 兔子灯 and solve riddles on the lanterns 猜灯谜. it officially ends the chinese new year. read more here.

kuE' note: this blog post supposed to be posted a week already. but i don't care ler... its better late than nothing or never hor? i updated my twitter anyway :)

ever since i joined my line dance group, my life kinda hectic with other activities too. sometimes i was asked to perform with them in functions or events here. i remembered that my first experience was for a mother & father's day celebration organized by a chinese community. it has been attended by local umno leaders. so i had to do a zapin number and some other line dances to english tunes erm... layan je ler. to tell you the truth, of course i lurve english numbers more especially all those fast tracks.

then there was this function organized by umno people quite some time ago. it was radically damnnnnn delayed i tell you. i stressed out the word damn because it was really late by 2 hours!!! blerk!... pity the kids who followed us. we don't have choice but to stay as we had to do some performances. if you could see my chinese friends, they were all crazy like mad. what to do. anyhow you can view one of my performances that has been recorded by megat here.

so basically my performances last saturday was obviously my third one! it was for a lantern festival celebration held here in kualè. unfortunately i didn't manage to take lotsa pics as usual though as my oly was running out of battery huhuu... now i dunno whether to blame myself for not charging my oly's battery beforehand; or my friend-cum-translator ms tung who didn't explain to me about the function properly. never mind lor... ms tung, no sweat ok?

lesson learned: every night before bedtime, i will ensure that i fully charged my oly's battery before the next day turned up, no matter whether i have anything going on or not! ;)

the function started with everyone singing the national song; as soon as the guest of honour, minister in the prime minister's department datuk seri mohamed nazri abdul aziz arrived.

there were variety of music and drums and of course the chinese lion dances and firecrackers.

children carry their lanterns around the village and families come together to eat sweet rice balls for good fortune and family unity. chinese lanterns were traditionally made of silk, paper and even glass. although the most common is the typical red balloon lantern, nowadays chinese Lanterns come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. there are lanterns in shapes of boxes, lotus flowers, dragons, butterflies and all sorts of animals. they range from the small lanterns carried by hand made of paper by school children to gigantic floats shaped in the chinese zodiac animal for that year made by teams of craftsmen. lion dances came to the main stage then along with these group of people. i knew that they have some kind stories and meaning behind the lion dance performances.

P9262330

towards the end of the performance, both "the lions" tried to peel out the mandarin oranges skin. they then presented the oranges to datuk nazri, who is also the mp of padang rengas.

P9262335

i tell you what people. i could say that the function that night was really celebrated with 1malaysia spirit although it was meant for a chinese festivity. there were dance performances of all sorts of cultures like malay, chinese and indian, not forgetting shuffle dance by kualè youth itself.

my performance was the first one. i didn't get to ask anyone to capture a video of it though. none of our kids followed anyway as the function was at night, and we afraid that it would be dragged till late. i should have asked bebudak shuffle tu to record a video of mine kan kan... :)

P9262342

the function wrapped up with lucky draws. looks like people were already looking forward with it from the beginning, as prizes offered were not bad i.e. hampers, bicycles, electrical items like blender, stand fans, and tvs too! but we didn't wait till the function ended though, as we knew it that there must be jammed if everyone were to go back together. from what i understood, since the function happened to be during syawal, datuk nazri also gave away raya money packets to all children who came that night.

and before i sign off this blog post, i am so glad to present you part of the performances held during that night... enjoy!

lantern festival celebration from kuE on vimeo

so how's the lantern festival at your places celebrated. care to share them with me?

see... when i blog, i really blog away *phew*

  • coming up: more delayed blog post and sponsored blog post.

  • coming up as well: the most bloggers' events talk of the blogosphere! can you guess of what is it? tungguuuuuuuuu... (wait) *winks*

  • besides that, i am also waiting for ms tung to pass me a china press newspaper cut-out about the function. they actually have a pic of me there you know. i wonder whether any of you people realized it ;)

breast feeding VS baby formula...

"Breastfeeding is THE BEST". We have all heard it. We all know that breastfeeding is the best. And yet every day new moms decide not to do it. It has a lot to do with society in general, preconceived notions and lack of support. Most of those things are both hard and easy to tackle. We all need to get off our high horses and support each other. If we would all support each other we would see that more women are more apt to try breastfeeding. If we stop being so judgmental about our differences and instead respected one another we could solve most, if not all, of the world's problems. But, of course, we have not yet figured out how to support someone who has made a different choice without feeling like we might have made a wrong choice.

In reality there are tons of reasons (not just health — baby's and YOURS) that breastfeeding is the way to go. Among the reasons that breastfeeding is so great is the fact that it is free. Yes, free!!! So, why do moms decide to spend all their hard earned money on something they could get for free? Well, probably for the same reason they will go out and spend their money on buying name brands as opposed to generic brands.

With both my 2 kids I breast feed the baby then pumped and froze what ever extra breast-milk I produced that day. Once I went back to work (with Puteri), I used the frozen breast-milk. When you have to buy the formula yourself; cost is a big issue. There’s an online calculator where you can check the cost of formula for the time your baby will be drinking it. It will surprise you when you learn how much formula costs.

Also, I know a lot of mom's who will pump while at work and store the breast milk. So if you are really committed to nursing exclusively you can still do it while working. I'm pretty sure companies are required to give you time to do this as well.

Actually in the United States, mothers are encouraged to breastfeed because breast milk is not only the healthiest option but it is also free, allowing parents to save up to USD2,000 for baby formula costs. However, there are some who choose to go on formula feeding rather than breastfeeding for whatever reason. So, what the WIC (Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Program) does is that it introduced a new food package to encourage breastfeeding. Now, if a mom chooses the breastfeeding package, she will no longer receive any infant formula. And if she chooses mixed feeding or total formula feeding, she will receive 13% less formula as compared to what was given last year. With these options, a mom will think otherwise about choosing formula feeding over breastfeeding because she will now have to pay more for buying regular formula on her own.

That's a great idea they got there at WIC. Of course, more mothers will be encouraged to do breastfeeding because less support is now given for infant formula.

WIC Services Include:
  • Food checks for specific foods
  • Nutrition education and counseling
  • Breastfeeding support
  • Immunization screening and referrals
  • Health care and social services referrals, including medical services, AFDC, Medicaid, and fuel assistance.

this nice cool weather always reminded me of our trip to cameron highlands about 4 years ago. it was the kids first trip there indeed. we were all especially megat was definitely damn excited, only He knew. no doubt we all lurve holidays!...

one thing that made us laughed that time was megat's bedtime incident. he was all ready to go to sleep when he wanted to pee. ok fine. then he went back to bed after he did his thing. and when he was about to close his eyes, he had to go to the washroom again! and guess what people. this happened again and again and again... i think that incident repeated maybe more than 6 to 7 times i tell you lol...

then finally when he wanted to go up again for the last time (if i'm not mistaken), he mumbled: "EEEEEEEEEE... what's this that i wanted to pee je!..." hehee... all of us laughed like hell :~)

let lunchster books your lunch dates

with work pressures multiplying, it isn’t easy to get away for a lunch with friends. lunchster automates the process of booking lunch dates with the people you want to keep close to you. the service, unveiled at DEMOfall 09, takes all of the work out of arranging lunch meetings.

lunchster surveyed recently that most people work near about 16 friends or colleague with whom they’d like to stay in better touch. they say about 80 percent of the people they surveyed wished they could keep in better touch with friends, but they find it too difficult to coordinate.

to take the hassle out of finding agreed upon dates and locations, lunchster automatically schedules lunches with those near you and seamlessly integrates the lunch date into calendars such as outlook, iCal, and google calendar. you simply send an email to a friend and cc lunch@lunchster.com to add a “lunch buddy” to your lunch rotation. then you suggest dates, or lunchster will schedule a lunch date with a buddy on your list every two weeks or so.

you can see the location of your friend on a google map. upon receiving an invitation, your friend can click on the map and see nearby restaurant recommendations from yelp, which scours the local area for the most convenient places to meet your friend.

lunchster will rotate through your friends so that you can space out the time between lunches, without feeling like you’ve totally lost touch with someone.

“It’s Krrunch Time, Get Playful!”

It's 4th day of Syawal! Some people already started working especially those in banking industry, and also some offices no matter in government or private sectors. While kiddos are still on Raya holidays until this Sunday! wohooo!!!... Better let them enjoy the “Krrunch” yo... Can't hassle them much also, not good occay?!!...

Basically my online timing was kinda off a bit during these days lor... I only managed to sign on around noon today. One of the "must" visit site is of course none other than my FB page. As soon as I signed on, I was like: "Oh my GOD!!!"...

2

A junior of my former secondary school typed this on her FB status: "Sat lg nak siap pg beraye kat umah Kak... tgh mkn cup cakes yg Kak... bg bawak balik semlm... yummy..." (translation: going to celebrate hari raya (eid mubarak) at kuE's house in a little while... am eating cupcakes now, given by kuE yesterday... yummy...).

1

Like I mentioned earlier, it's already 4th of Syawal now. We don't have much thingy to be served to them... there's no more lemang, rendang and what's not!

So I quickly grabbed my car keys and off I went!...

3

Check-out the clear blue sky people... Aren't we feel sooooo damn lucky to have this kind of weather during a festive season? It's way easy for us though to go and visit our relatives and friends. But anyhow I had an important mission to go through first!

4

The main road along Clifford School (yes, this is how local veterans called the school!) was smooth... kewl! I can't have much hope though, while tapping my fingers away on the steering wheel; with hope that the road will be just like that all the way...

5

And when I was about to reach the "Jam Besor" (Big Clock Tower)... Holy SH*T!!! Look at the traffic to/fro every corners of the roundabout junction people especially towards the Jalan (road) Kangsar (the 3 o'clock turning).

6

Then I headed straight to a local mini market. I searched everywhere, hi and low, and finally...

7

Thank God that there were only two tubes of Pringles left! *phew*

You people don't know of how happy I am until now, smiling from ear-to-ear seeing what I was thinking of. Whatever it is, at least there's something that nothing at all!

8

And now... I am all ready with my open hearts, waiting for my guest to be arrived!!!...

9

Besides that, of course I also have some Raya money packets to be given away... Hah! those in the pic below are mine actually, courtesy of my lil' sis and lil' bro hehee...

Hey! btw KL-Kualè is not that far ler... You will only take about 2.5 hours drive :)
